Transparency reporting on terrorist and violent extremist content online 2022

This is the third benchmarking report tracking evolution of online content-sharing services’ policies and procedures for terrorist violent extremist content (TVEC). Fifteen top 50 most popular services now issue TVEC-specific transparency reports, increasing from five in 2020 eleven 2021. edition also examines that disseminate TVEC (“Intensive Services”). Only appear both groups, reflecting bad actors are shifting to smaller as larger ones strengthen moderation. eight Intensive Services currently thirteen have no prohibition on seventeen provide information at all. The findings suggest size encryption not insurmountable barriers reporting. It remains difficult obtain an industry-wide perspective impact companies’ measures against TVEC. Finally, regulatory fragmentation worsening more jurisdictions implementing disparate requirements.
